Yesterday we had some heavy rain with the possibility of thunder and lightening the lightening threat seemed to be off in the distance and would not affect our run. However I run in back of the pack what we like to dub the happy group! We are mostly woman, sometimes one or two of the men will hang back with us but not usually on the shorter Thursday runs. So everyone is hemming and hawing at the rain, not really wanting to get wet so I just yelled out let’s go ladies! And off I went…. Praying they would follow suit as this is still a new route to me and I do get lost easily. They did and before we knew it the rain had stopped, about a mile in and we were all drenched yet happily running.
So there I am leading the pack… ME the girl that couldn’t run 60 seconds last year! LEADING the pack! WHOOT WHOOT! Boy that makes me feel hard core!
However 3 miles into our 5 miles I was DYING! Trying my best to overcome that stupid wall I hit at 3 miles, it never fails, when one of my running mates, Susan, takes over the lead and starts in on her motivation that gets me through. This lady has run 6 marathons, working on number 7 this year. She announced that this year is her last! She was telling us about how last year she fell around mile 10 and broke her wrist… and she still finished Chicago… it took her a little longer then previously but dude… she broke her wrist and then FINISHED! She said she made sure her cast matched the colour on her finisher’s ribbon! HA… something I would do. J
Anyways we got it done and it made me wonder on the ride home… this must be what teamwork is all about! I have been a part of Team Gabler for 3 years now and it’s very similar to what I experienced last night. Sr and I really compliment each other well; this running group and I really compliment each other well too! And to think Chicago is only 85 days away!
Oh and BTW I’m on target to run 31 miles this week! Holy Sh** right?
